Description
HEIRLOOM Organic Lucuma Powder is made from 100% organically grown lucuma fruit (Pouteria lucuma) from Peru. The fruit is dried and finely milled to create an easy-to-use powder while retaining the characteristic golden colour and naturally sweet flavour of lucuma.
Native to the Andean regions of South America, lucuma has been cultivated and eaten in Peru for centuries. The fruit has a distinctive flavour often described as a combination of caramel, maple and vanilla, making the powder particularly useful in both everyday foods and naturally sweet recipes.
Unlike refined sweeteners, lucuma powder is made from the fruit itself. It provides 9.3 g dietary fibre per 100 g, based on the nutrition information for this product, while its naturally occurring sugars provide its characteristic sweetness.
Flavour
Lucuma has a mild, naturally sweet flavour with caramel, maple and vanilla-like notes. It pairs particularly well with cacao, banana, coconut, cinnamon, vanilla, berries and nut butters.
Because its sweetness is gentle rather than intense, lucuma can add flavour to a recipe without overpowering the other ingredients.
