Description

HEIRLOOM 100% Hibiscus Flower is made from dried hibiscus calyces (Hibiscus sabdariffa), selected for their characteristic deep red to wine colour and naturally tart, slightly astringent flavour. The current hibiscus is sourced from Guerrero and Oaxaca, Mexico, and contains no added flavours or sweeteners. The product specification describes the flowers as dried calyces with the characteristic colour, aroma and acidic flavour profile of hibiscus.

When steeped in hot water, dried hibiscus flowers create a vivid ruby-red herbal infusion with a refreshing, cranberry-like tartness. Enjoy hibiscus tea hot or chilled, or use the flowers to bring natural colour and acidity to drinks, syrups, jams, jellies and desserts. Hibiscus is widely used in hot and cold drinks and a range of sweet food applications.

Naturally caffeine free, hibiscus flower offers a simple alternative to traditional tea and coffee when you want a bold herbal infusion without caffeine. Its sharp fruit-like flavour also pairs well with Ceylon cinnamon, ginger, citrus, mint and naturally sweet ingredients.

How to Use Hibiscus Flower

For a simple hibiscus herbal infusion, add approximately 1–2 teaspoons of dried hibiscus flower to a cup of hot water. Steep for 5–10 minutes, strain and enjoy. Adjust the amount or steeping time for a stronger infusion.

For iced hibiscus tea, prepare a stronger infusion, allow it to cool and serve over ice with fresh lime, lemon or mint. Add a sweetener to taste if preferred.

Hibiscus flower can also be simmered into syrups for sparkling drinks and mocktails, added to homemade jams and jellies, or infused into dessert sauces. Try pairing it with Ceylon cinnamon and ginger for a warming herbal drink or with lime and mint for a sharp, refreshing cold infusion. Hibiscus is also used internationally in drinks and culinary preparations, including jams, jellies, cakes and other desserts.
