Versatile Aromatic Ceylon Nutmeg Myristica fragrans, a tropical evergreen tree has grown naturally in the spice gardens of Ceylon from early 15th century. Carefully handpicked fragrant kernels are sundried naturally and milled to produce this exotic, fragrant powder. Aromatic Ceylon Nutmeg can be used to enhance flavors of sweet and savory dishes!
Uses Pairs well with savory and sweet dishes. Mix a dash of nutmeg powder, with coconut sugar and cinnamon in a shaker, sprinkle on baked goods, fruits, waffles, pancakes, hot beverages, cereal, yogurt, or even ice cream for an exotic flavor! Blend into smoothies and cocktails. Soak overnight oats with a dash of nutmeg, cardamom and cinnamon powder, healthy seeds, and nuts. You can use it alone or pair it with other spices, such as cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves. With a warm, sweet flavor, when added to desserts, it even acts as a palate cleanser. Great in pies, cakes, cookies, breads, fruit salads, and custards. Works well in savory, meat-based dishes, such as pork chops and lamb curry. Nutmeg can be sprinkled onto starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and pumpkin to create a deep, interesting flavor. What’s more, you can add it to warm or cold beverages, including apple cider, hot chocolate, chai tea, turmeric lattes, and smoothies.

Depending on the harvest and season every batch of Ceylon Nutmeg can vary in color and to a minor degree in taste as it is a natural cottage-industry product that does not use any chemical refining, additives, or preservatives to standardize product like with large-scale commercially grown and heavily processed spices

100+ years of expertise Our Ceylon Nutmeg sales supports the traditional livelihoods of villagers in the rainforest regions of Sri Lanka. Ceylon Nutmeg is harvested by traditional methods handed down generations to preserve and retain its natural flavor. This traditional production allows village populations to utilize their age-old knowledge and expertise to survive in this modernized and mechanized world of manufacture by producing this 100% natural unrefined product. Backed by generations of expertise of the harvesters, and packed in a certified ISO and Organic processing mill, this product plays a vital role in the employment, welfare, and wellbeing of the rural village community. The children of our workforce are provided with school books and stationery for the entire school year. The mill also organizes religious and cultural events to inculcate a sense of belonging to a bigger cause, bringing a sense of pride and community to the villagers who are using age-old knowledge, treading lightly, and making a living for their families, sustainably.
Price for quality Our products are not mass-produced in vast industrialised factories. So we do not enjoy the economies of scale that supermarket brands do. We pay the millers and farmers a fair price. Specifically, batch-crafted for New Zealand, Kokonati & Heirloom products are made with multigenerational expertise and knowledge to be the best quality they can be and so easily justify the premium price for the premium quality you are getting.
Loyalty Just as we are fiercely loyal to the millers and families we work with, we also want to reward you, for your loyalty. So every time you purchase a Kokonati or an Heirloom product you also collect rewards points that can be redeemed for a discount at checkout. Remember to sign up for the reward points (the tab on the far mid-right edge of this screen).
Packaging and recycling 30g bag-in-box. Dispose of the soft plastic bag in the supermarket collection bin. The card box can be disposed of in your recycling bin. The reason we use a clear bag for spices is so you can see the product in the clear window in the front of the box before you buy. The box protects the product by reducing exposure to light thereby protecting the potency of the spice.
Advice when spices are used as a supplement: Most of these ancient spices have flavored our foods for centuries and are safe to consume regularly when used as a spice; a small proportion of ingredient when making foods. It would be very hard to overdose on a spice when it is a minute part of a food recipe. With recent research and articles highlighting the medicinal properties and health attributes of these spices, rather than just consuming it straight away as a supplement, it is always advisable to consult a nutritionist or doctor, if using this product as an ongoing treatment for a health issue. A health care provider may recommend a specific dosage depending on a person’s age, weight, and medical condition.
